Advent Reflection – Theme: LOVE In this Advent reflection, we contemplate the mystery of God’s love made visible through the promise and birth of Jesus Christ. The readings reveal a love that is faithful, sacrificial, and saving—a love that enters our world through obedience, trust, and humility. First Reading: Isaiah 7:10–14 The prophet Isaiah proclaims the sign of divine love: “The virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall name him Emmanuel.” God chooses to dwell with His people, revealing a love that draws near. Second Reading: Romans 1:1–7 St. Paul reminds us that we are loved, called, and chosen through Jesus Christ. God’s love invites us into grace, peace, and a life of faithful obedience. Gospel: Matthew 1:18–25 The Gospel reveals love through the quiet courage of St. Joseph. His obedience to God’s will allows Love Himself to enter the world. Jesus, Emmanuel, is born to save His people from their sins. Advent invites us to receive God’s love and to become witnesses of that love in our daily lives. 3rd Sunday of Advent – Gaudete Sunday | Theme: JOY This Sunday, the Church pauses in the middle of Advent to celebrate Gaudete Sunday — a day of rejoicing. The rose candle is lit as a symbol of joyful anticipation for the coming of Christ, our true source of hope and gladness. First Reading: Isaiah 35:1–6 Isaiah announces a future filled with renewal: deserts bloom, the blind see, the deaf hear, and the lame leap like a deer. God’s saving power brings joy to those who wait for Him. Second Reading: James 5:7–10 St. James encourages us to be patient and steadfast, like farmers waiting for the precious harvest. Joy grows in hearts that trust in God’s timing. Gospel: Matthew 11:2–11 Jesus reassures John the Baptist through signs of divine joy: the sick are healed, the poor receive good news, and the kingdom is breaking in. Blessed are those who recognize God’s work even in unexpected ways. Gaudete Sunday calls us to rejoice — not in perfection, but in God’s presence already at work in our lives. 1st Sunday of Advent – Theme: HOPE As we enter the holy season of Advent, the Church invites us to awaken our hearts with renewed hope. Today’s readings remind us that God’s promise is unfolding, and we are called to walk in His light with expectation and vigilance. First Reading: Isaiah 2:1–5 Isaiah paints a vision of a world transformed by God’s peace, where nations beat their swords into plowshares. It is a promise that light will overcome darkness. Second Reading: Romans 13:11–14 St. Paul urges us to “wake from sleep,” to cast off darkness, and to “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Advent is a spiritual wake-up call. Gospel: Matthew 24:36–44 Jesus reminds us to stay watchful and ready, for the Son of Man will come at an unexpected hour. Hope leads us to readiness—not in fear, but in trust.
